ISIS has claimed responsibility for the Las Vegas attack carried out by Stephen Paddock, reasserting their claims multiple times over since the attack, with little to no evidence coming to light proving Paddock’s connections to the group. This sequence of events is not at all consistent with ISIS’s usual, calculated claims in which they provide irrefutable, often video, evidence of an attacker pledging allegiance to the group in order to maintain the credibility of their claim. Charlie Winter, Amarnath Amarasingam, and Jade Parker discuss how the group’s assertions about the Las Vegas attack can tell us more about the group itself than they do about the Vegas attacker in their article here.
